St. John’s Antigua and Barbuda: The Ministry of Tourism, Economic Development, Investment and Energy on the behalf of the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO), is pleased to invite the students of Antigua and Barbuda to participate in the 2016 National Junior Minister of Tourism Speech Competition to be held on June 9, 2016.
This competition is open to students between the ages of 14 and 17 years attending private and public secondary schools.
The aim of the National Speech Competition is to develop students’ knowledge of tourism issues and to assist them with the preparation and presentation of speeches as well as to select a 2016 Junior Minister of Tourism to represent Antigua and Barbuda at the CTO’s Tourism Youth Congress.
Therefore, as we embark on finding the 2016 Junior Minister of Tourism, we are requesting that each school hosts an internal competition to select the best candidate (please submit the name of your candidate no later than May 17, 2016) to participate in the National Speech Competition. The winner will be proudly designated Antigua and Barbuda’s 2016 Junior Minister of Tourism and will represent Antigua and Barbuda at the 2016 CTO Youth Congress.
The competition is structured to mirror a CTO Board of Directors’ Meeting. Students must come prepared to share their knowledge and views with their fellow Junior Ministers/Commissioners of Tourism on one of the following prepared topics.
- The Customer’s Perception of the Brand
- Fostering Entrepreneurship
- Creating Flow Experiences
In addition, students are required to address a mystery topic.
 It is important to remember that this is not a debating competition; it is a discussion among Junior Ministers/Commissioners, which generates practical ideas that can be implemented at the national/regional levels.
The Youth Congress is an integral part of the Caribbean Tourism Organization’s (CTO) annual State of the Industry Conference and is a regional activity involving students from CTO member countries. Its main aim is to stimulate greater awareness and excitement about tourism among young people in our Caribbean communities, by allowing them to research various facets of the tourism sector and share their ideas and vision, with respect to future directions for Caribbean Tourism.
