ABLP boss targets independent candidate instead of UPP leader

St Johns, Antigua, January 5th, 2023 – Political Leader of the Antigua and Barbuda Gaston Browne appears to be running a campaign against a former ABLP colleague instead of targeting the leader of the United Progressive Party (UPP) – the main opposition party.

Four term Member of Parliament Asot Michael says he is puzzled why Gaston Browne’s campaign for re-election is largely focused on him:

“I don’t know why the Prime Minister’s campaign seems to be about Asot Michael versus Gaston Browne. I didn’t know that I am running for the top position in the country. Are you aware that Asot Michael is interested in becoming Prime Minister? I didn’t know that.

“I would have thought that this election would have been UPP versus ALP and Gaston Browne would be attacking Harold Lovell.

“But the entire election over the last few weeks is a mudslinging by the Prime Minister against Asot Michael… Why is there such a vicious, nasty campaign against Asot Michael?

“Is he paranoid that I want his job?”

Mr. Michael spoke in an interview on ABS Television program Antigua and Barbuda Today, on January 5th, 2023.

The former ABLP Government Minister has been the Member of Parliament for St. Peter for the past 18 years having won 4 straight elections as a candidate of the Antigua & Barbuda Labour Party. He is contesting the January 18th, 2023 election as an independent candidate.
